A retired print journalist and former actor, Ian Gillespie spent more than 30 years working as a reporter, columnist and editor at the London Free Press newspaper. In 2009 he was part of a Free Press team that won a National Newspaper Award for a series of stories about the abduction and murder of an eight-year-old girl from nearby Woodstock. Since retiring from the newspaper business, Gillespie has focused on writing fiction. His short story “It Won’t Go Away” appeared in the 2021 anthology “Dead Keys,” published by Loose Dog Press, while his story “Playing Possum” was selected as a runner-up for the 2021 Austin Clarke Award sponsored by the Toronto-based online literary journal The Puritan (since rebranded as The Ex-Puritan). In addition to writing, Gillespie hosted three seasons of the DocTalks podcast produced by St. Joseph’s Health Care. A former skydiver (with nearly 500 jumps) and an avid motorcyclist, Gillespie is married, has three grown children and lives in London, Ontario with his wife and a growing collection of typewriters.
